OUR IMPACT AREAS

Creating lasting change requires looking at the whole picture. Our work is organized around four interconnected impact areas that help guide where we invest resources, build partnerships, bring people together, and focus our attention.

These areas reflect some of the most important building blocks of a thriving community. While the work within them continues to grow, they provide a framework for how United Way of Leavenworth County is working alongside our community to create meaningful, lasting change.

 

HEALTHY COMMUNITY

Helping people live healthier lives.

A healthy community means people have access to nutritious food, physical and behavioral healthcare, safe housing, transportation, and the resources they need to thrive.

Our work includes:

  • Supporting local organizations addressing food insecurity, mental health, healthcare access, homelessness, and other essential needs.

  • Working alongside community partners to strengthen food access and identify gaps in services.

  • Connecting residents with community resources and increasing awareness of available support.

  • Exploring collaborative solutions to barriers such as transportation, housing stability, and access to care.

YOUTH OPPORTUNITY

Helping every child reach their full potential.

Children thrive when they have strong foundations, supportive environments, access to quality education, and opportunities to learn and grow.

Our work includes:

  • Supporting organizations and programs serving children and families throughout Leavenworth County.

  • Promoting early literacy through community book distributions and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.

  • Working with community partners to better understand and address childcare availability and capacity across the county.

  • Supporting initiatives that help children enter school ready to learn and continue to succeed as they grow.

     

FINANCIAL SECURITY

Helping families build stability and opportunity.

Financial security is about more than income. It means being able to afford basic needs, remain safely housed, weather an unexpected expense, and build toward a more stable future.

Our work includes:

  • Supporting organizations providing emergency assistance, housing stability, utility assistance, and other essential resources.

  • Raising awareness of ALICE households and the financial realities facing working families in Leavenworth County.

  • Building partnerships around financial education, stability, and access to resources.

  • Using local data to better understand financial hardship and identify opportunities for long term solutions.

     

COMMUNITY RESILIENCY

Building a community ready to respond, recover, and grow stronger.

Strong communities are built through relationships. By connecting residents, nonprofits, businesses, volunteers, and community leaders, we can better prepare for challenges and respond when our neighbors need us most.

Our work includes:

  • Building stronger volunteer connections and creating more opportunities for people to serve locally.

  • Bringing organizations together to collaborate, share resources, and address community needs.

  • Supporting nonprofits through capacity building, partnerships, grants, and community connections.

  • Strengthening local preparedness and exploring ways United Way can help coordinate resources during times of community need.

These four areas are deeply connected. A child's opportunity is affected by their family's financial stability. Financial stability is influenced by access to childcare, healthcare, housing, and transportation. And all of those systems are stronger when communities are connected and prepared.

That is why United Way looks beyond individual issues to the bigger picture.
